CSESA at ASHA Convention in Chicago

Join two of our CSESA project staff members, Jessica Dykstra and Aimee Bord at the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) Convention in Chicago on Thursday, November 14th at  6:30pm. They will share about social interventions and outcomes for high school students with ASD, and barriers and solutions to providing social interventions in high school settings. Implementing Social Competence Interventions for High School Students with ASD: Feasibility in 3 Pilot Studies

SUMMARY: High school students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) struggle with social competence skills which are critical to their post-secondary success. This presentation provides a summary of existing research, an overview of three pilot interventions, and implications for SLPs addressing social competence given the unique challenges of high school settings.

LEARNER OUTCOMES:

  1. After attending this session, participants will be able to discuss the challenges related to implementing social competence interventions in high school contexts with students with ASD.
  2. After attending this session, participants will be able to describe interventions and strategies that may be used to address social competence with high school students with ASD.
  3. After attending this session, participants will be able to describe ideas or solutions for meeting the challenges of implementing school-based social competence interventions with high school students with ASD.
